La Rocque was known for his work in films such as The Ten Commandments (1923), The Divine Lady (1929), and The Ghost Walks (1934). He also appeared in a number of television shows in the 1950s.

La Rocque was romantically linked with several actresses, including Vilma Bánky and Constance Bennett. He was married twice, first to Hungarian actress Vilma Bánky in 1927 and later to Virginia La Roche in 1930, with whom he had two children.
